Docks or Docking, depending on who you ask, is where much of the ship storage takes place, as well as the remaining inter-city commerce. Drone-driven craft navigate a constant loop back and forth under solar power, driven by one of the first AI this process has yielded an automated global network of ships, some high speed, between all the main cities on this planet. The majority of their traffic is people, but some goods are still moved this way as there are some backwaters without navigable Spaceports. The water is needed as a landing zone for most of these craft, and the docks look like a gaping maw hanging out over Lake Erie. Some of the shuttle traffic from Spaceport comes here as well, many of the dual-use craft are capable of wet landings. This is the third loudest part of Chitroit, behind only Spaceport and GCHD. Many of those who make their trade in Docking have transferred their dwelling permits and begun moving in out here. The slums under the takeoff plane have stopped growing east but The Pit is also encroaching, so the housing bubble is growing out towards Zone 016. This is not necessarily well advised, nor legal, but so many people are doing it that Municorp can do little about it.
One of the only places in the city that regularly exchanges air with the outside world, Docking must be kept spotlessly clean at all times. This opportunity has not been missed by many, deep in the slums, who will pierce the Seal and smuggle in outside air or push out waste. Docking is not immune to this, however it is much more tightly regulated here, as it can be much more damaging this close to the water. There are two days every year when at dawn Sol shines all the back into the deepest corners of Docking, and there is a big, expensive party every time. Dawn means nothing to your schedule if you have not seen the sun in a year. The Engevo light is pretty good, but nothing beats sunshine.
